Drawing for Teens
Taught by: Sandra Weston
Ages: 12+
Cost: $20
Number of Students: Min - 5, Max - 10.
Expectations: Enthusiasm and a real desire to express oneself through drawing. Active listening and participation, as well as respect for others are a must. Students will be expected to bring their own art supplies and sketchbook (or art journal) to class every week. Beginning artists are welcome!
Class Description: This class is especially for young people who are hung up on their ability to draw realistic representations of what they see – a malady affecting many previously joyful and successful artists as they enter adolescence and beyond. Students will
learn, through a variety of fun drawing challenges and exercises, that drawing is still easy, fun, and rewarding! Just as a poem wastes no words getting to the essence of its message, our goal will be to artfully convey the heart of a subject – not just to accurately depict its outward appearance.
We will use a few traditional drawing exercises and some innovative methods as well. We’ll keep a drawing journal and homework will be assigned. A list of basic drawing materials and supplies will be provided to each registrant prior to the first day of class. Students will be expected to bring their own art supplies (in a field bag or backpack) to class each week.
